Reflections on ISTE 2011 – Part 4 (BYOD)

This post in Mind Shift quotes Adam S. Bellow, author of the Tech Commandments, from his recent presentation at the ISTE conference on the education system. Bellow makes a number of valid points in his “7 Golden Rules,” but the idea in Rule #3 that mobile devices really stretch the budget (and what is possible) is really gaining a lot of traction throughout school districts.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is catching on rapidly in pockets of the country and potentially is a major game changer in terms of student access to technology. With this technology strategy, teaching models will have to adapt to take advantage of the budget and learning benefits that a BYOD program can offer.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on BYOD and mobile devices. What do you think of Bellow’s 7 Golden Rules? Are you utilizing a BYOD program to stretch your budget? If so, how has the way you teach changed?
